Business Description:  The business is a well-established 13-year-old B2B (Business to Business) customer printer and supplier of ink and toner cartridges to local businesses (estimated at 60%) and consumers (~40%) located primarily in Tarrant County.  The business primarily sells remanufactured cartridges but also offers OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges, all at prices that are typically 30-50% less expensive than office supply stores such as OfficeMax.  Typical print work and graphic design includes business cards, postcards, banners, posters, canvas, window graphics, etc.

The primary customers for print work are small businesses, churches, occasionally, people hosting small events. For toner cartridges, primary customers are medical, law, and insurance offices as well as other small businesses. Ink cartridges are generally sold to home-based consumers with printers.

The business remanufactures higher volume, simple inkjet cartridges and purchases low volume inkjet plus all toner cartridges wholesale from 3rd party partners.  Originally founded in 2008, the business has continued to increase printing sales (although printer cartridge refills continue to be the majority).  The business is located on the corner of a busy intersection, in a busy strip center with easy access to major roads and highways for walk-in consumer customers.  The B2B customer base spans all industries and includes small to medium sized businesses.

The business operates with a hands-on owner-operator and 1 FT loyal, experienced employee.  The full-time employee can operate almost all aspects of the business.  The seller states that the business has excellent matching books & records and that they can prove all sales, expenses and income.

The business has operated profitably for many years.  The owner feels that much of their success is due to their excellent location on the corner of a busy intersection plus the large number of small businesses in the area.  The business marketed significantly in its early years and has built a strong repeat customer base (who know the business location and company).  The owner states that they continue to get new customers almost every day.  Customers are happy with the service and committed to using the company.  The business is recession-resistant, and a new, energetic owner can further increase sales & profits in many ways such as 1) business-to-business marketing and 2) adding complementary services.

Purchase Price:  The asking price for the assets of the business is $130,000 with $30,000 CASH down payment and balance financed as an SBA7(a) loan.  If required by a commercial lender, the seller will consider financing up to 10% of the price to a purchaser qualified/approved by the seller.  Seller prefers to sell for ALL-CASH.  Seller Financing is subject to Seller’s Approval, in Seller’s SOLE discretion and responsibility, of the Purchaser’s financials, Credit-worthiness and suitability as the Purchaser.  All financing is to be personally guaranteed.  The assets include inventory at cost of $20,000, Accounts Receivable of $00 and FFE (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) used value at $15,000.  The price will be adjusted for actual inventory as of the sale date.  The purchaser will need to assume 1) customer loyalty program (punch card for customers that can entitle them to a free or reduced price cartridge if they buy a certain amount), 2) small amount of store credits from returns (customers have small amounts, each generally under $100).

Employees:   The business operates with 1 full-time owner-operator and 1 fully trained, loyal full-time employee.  The owner can take vacation and feel confident that the business is being well-operated by the employee. The owner-operator (averaging 34 hours/wk) oversees the business, helps customers with transactions and inquiries, takes print work orders and completes design/print, fills printer cartridges and helps where needed, places orders for inventory, and organizes everything financially. The owner makes 3 or so business deliveries per month.  The new owner needs to have previous experience using Adobe Illustrator or be familiar with how to do graphic design. Otherwise, there may be a need for an additional graphic designer to be hired.

The full time employee is the Assistant Manager, has been with the business for 11+ years, and helps customers, refills ink cartridges, designs print projects and prints/finishes customer jobs, …

Facilities:  The business operates from ~2,077 SF stand-alone building on a major thoroughfare for ~$4,042/month incl NNN.  The space is ~85% utilized and has room for expansion or addition of other business services.

Competition:  The business attracts customers from throughout the DFW metroplex, although the seller estimates that 90%+ of customers are within10-15 miles of the store.  The custom printing and supply of ink and toner cartridges industry is very competitive.  Major cartridge competitors include Walmart, Staples, Office Max, and Walmart.   However, none of these offer the same range of products/services, lower pricing or provide great service.  Despite the presence of well-established competitors, the owner feels that onsite cartridge refilling is a major advantage (since no one else in the local market is providing this service).  A second major advantage is the fact that this location has been owned and operated for 10+ years in the same high-visibility, easy-access location.

Growth & Expansion:  The seller has used the location, marketing, word of mouth, friendly service, website and referrals from other stores, to build their business.   A lot of business comes from drive-by customers since the location has high-visibility at a very busy intersection.  The most successful advertising has been to send out a marketer visiting business to business and handing out flyers (or giving quotes).

Most of their sales have been from people coming into the store and purchasing. A few business customers call or email their orders, and the business ships their cartridges directly to them.  The business also delivers to ~5 long-term customers, with 3-5 deliveries per month within a 5 mile radius.  A new, energetic owner can further increase sales & profits in many ways including:

  1. Continuing loyalty card program
  2. Business to business direct marketing
  3. Market to local businesses, medical offices, attorneys to develop house accounts
  4. Adding complementary business-related services such as secure shredding, shipping, cell phone repair drop-off, etc.
  5. Adding an online store to order cartridges
  6. Adding related product lines that could be marketed to B2B customers (eg managed print services, office products and promotional products),
  7. Social media advertising
  8. Promote social media reviews on Yelp, Google, etc.

Support & Training: Seller will train purchaser for 2 weeks included with the purchase price.  Seller is willing to provide additional training or general assistance at mutually agreeable compensation.
